Not nearly as awkward as that first run suggested, but not nearly as smooth as it does when you turn it up. But I personally feel like the anchor slowing the GlideRide down ultimately makes it better The EvoRide has some upper issues, mostly tongue/lacing related, but the super uptempo feel of the midsole geometry has me constantly pushing pace just to find that sweet spot. I might consider it for racing if I didn’t have a quiver of expensive “magic slippers” that I believe wholeheartedly in (perhaps with carbon plates, haha).
Jim Coulson is a career firefighter, husband, and father of two children hailing from the foothills of Colorado. As I am not a heel striker (not that there is anything wrong with that) I did not feel any encapsulated GEL in the heel. The tongue is strikingly thick and puffy and the heel counter is very rigid with well-placed padding. The Escalante works fine with the pace picks up, as well as when it is an easy day, but the ride of the EvoRide is a massive improvement. The Asics Metaride is almost as interesting to look at as it is to run in. The curved sole design lifts the nose up of the shoes significantly, but this lift is only visible from the distance and from very close to the ground. Thanks! I have struggled with hot spots on the upper of the Zoom Fly 3 (above the big toe joint) but really want to love it. The Zoom Fly is much higher stack, squishier, and more cushioned. Other than that, the upper is no-frills and fits on the narrow side of the spectrum and runs true to size. Like the Metaride and Glideride, Asics’ latest Evoride is constructed with the Flytefoam-infused Guidesole technology.
